graphic design paper ideas? I'm writing a paper for my History of Graphic Design class, and I'm trying to make it a little more interesting than just a typical paper. My topic is on the history of newspapers and how the typography within newspapers has developed, so I was thinking about designing the paper into a newspaper format. The only problem is, I'm not exactly sure how to do that. Any ideas? Or maybe suggestions other than the newspaper format?
What should you study to be a 3D modeler and animator? Is a graphic design major that looks like this sufficient: VCAR/FACS 113 Introduction to Design 3 VCAR 201 History of Art 3 VCAR 210 Drawing I 3 VCAR 222 Desktop Publishing 3 VCAR 223 Typography 3 VCAR 300 Art as Communication 3 VCAR 332 Digital Illustration 3 VCAR 341 Graphic Design 3 VCAR 351 Digital Imaging 3 VCAR 371 Advanced Graphics 3 VCAR 472 Interactive Media 3 VCAR 473 2D/3D Graphics and Animation 3 VCAR 492 Professional Practices 3 VCAR 499 Internship 3 As you see, it includes one section of 2D/3D Graphics and Animation. Is that enough if I want to be an animator as good as those who made Veggie Tales, Lord of the Rings or Avatar? Or would it be better to go with a major specifically directed at Animating? The Animating Major includes not only 3D animation, but 2D animation, stop motion animation, 3D character design, animation principles, story-boarding, audio for film, traditional animation (including flipbooks and clay), projects and collaborative work, drawing for animation, motion graphics (skills for green-screening, video collages, various visual effects), internship and more. Now, a lot of that seems like it would be a waste of time, seeing as I'm really only interested in 3D modeling, animation and special effects. When I read the whole course description, I got the impression that it's all one gets a whole lot of...knowledge and skill to work in making computer animations for films. But does it sound like a good enough major, as opposed to the graphic design major, for working on 3D short/feature films, modeling, animation, and special effects? Are stuff like claymation, stop motion and 2D drawing and animation a waste of time? Thanks for answering, TTT. I asked here because I wanted to know more about what is important to learn if one wants to go into 3D animating.
I am a Freshman at Cazenovia College, and i'm not sure if i should transfer or not.? I really wanted to go to New Paltz at first, my heart was set on it, and i thought that i would really enjoy the school until i didn't get accepted. I now attend Cazenovia College and am really not sure if i should stay here or not. I'm not loving college. I'm 6 hours away from home and want to go there all the time. I'm constantly feeling out of place, and it seems like my classes are almost too easy for college level. I had a seminar that all we do is design t-shirts for 2 hours, and one time i played tetris for 2 hours. It just seems silly when the course was supposed to be talking about past revolutions in history like in the 60's. I was really excited to take this course and its terrible. My typography class today consisted of my professor showing us his portfolio and then making us look at typographic websites. This class is 8am to 10am, we got let out at 9. He does this a lot where class will be canceled early. I dont hate that factor of course, except i should want to leave. I'm not happy here. I feel like i will never make decent friends who are like me. I did meet some people who i guess i call my friends but i'm still not happy. I feel like i should want to go back to my college after a break not dread it. I just dont want to be wasting time here when i could be having the best time somewhere else. ICazenovia is also a very small school. there was about 407 students in my graduating class this year. My school consists of 1200 students. Its really small. So if you have a problem with a group of people, which i already did...long story... you cant escape them. Also there is nothing to do around campus. Thje diner closes at 3pm, and the student center doesnt sell coffee , only watery wraps. We also have to pay 3 bucks to do laundry, and you cant get coffee in the caf and bring it out because they dont give you cups. The library has coffee but its not always that good. I just dont want to be doing all this art work when maybe i would like it better somewhere else. Would it be a mistake to transfer to New Paltz? I live on Long island by the way Thank you

Honestly, do you love America despite the Neo-conservatism? I admit the scenery in America can get magnificent (in places)....what a beautiful country. The California typography is surreal, from the Desert to the Pacific to the Redwoods to the valley to San Francisco Bay to the vineyards to the Sierra to Yosemite....to Big Sur.....to Hollywood and the celebrities.....it MAKES America! I LOVE driving across Ohio and seeing the smalltown hardworking Union industrial towns that built the backbone of America. I love the independent eccelectic sleepless New York, NY. I love the vision of paradise you sense in Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando and the Beaches of Miami. The French Culture of New Orleans. The glitter of Las Vegas. The history of the native peoples in the Dakotas, the carvings of our forefathers on the stones of Mount Rushmore. The people of the Rockies in Colorado.... the hospitality of the South The ever still grasslands of Texas The Colonial settlements and battlefields of Virginia. The slow-cooked Barbecue of the Carolinas... The serenity of America's National Parks and State Parks. The 10,000 Lakes and wooden cabins and cottages and churches, of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.... what a BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!!!! We are blessed to live in this country. But what is with the neo-conservatives who want to take everything down and put Walmarts everywhere and bail out AIG and big companies instead of helping small businesses and poor families? what are we doing to this BEAUTIFUL country.... This country is too beautiful to destroy with bad politics. Can we at least agree on that? And before you all die, you need to take drive along Arizona's Desert hills and hike the Grand Canyon
Should I Transfer Out of Design School? I am a freshman attending the Rhode Island School of Design. I intend to major in graphic design, but lately I've become increasingly more depressed at the thought of being trapped in this one career for the rest of my life. In addition, I am well rounded person with many interests such as literature and politics, and the art school atmosphere seems like an apathetic bubble with no interests outside of sterotypical artistic ones. I also feel like somewhat of a fraud around other graphic design majors, who all seem to love typography much more than I do. Because of these reasons, I have been considering transferring to a non-arts college and majoring in history, english, or something like that. However, I know that RISD has the best graphic design department in the U.S., so I may regret it later if I eventually choose to go back to graphic design. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance.
Frustrated with university graphic design ...? Basically, I do graphic design and I'm so disillusioned after this year, the whole course was essentially typography, which is interesting but it's so frustrating that the tutor has a passion for it, hence other areas such as web design and animation are discouraged e.g. six weeks spent on a type poster vs. the one class, ONE on animation and motion graphics ... I'm using this summer to get into the library and really try and learn something about design and it's history but honestly half my class are image conscious, mac worshipping, suck-ups and working with them is painful to me - nobody can have pure fun and just be messy It sounds like I'm some sort of outsider in the class but I was top of the class in semester 1 and in the top 5 in semseter 2, which was only 8 weeks but it was a consant struggle, missing out on a 1st becuase I didn't 'chat' to the tutors enough, but I simply don't want to, they're not appraochable ... plus it cost me £3000 ... am I wrong to feel this way?
Personal Statement. (UCAS Application)? It's come to that time of year and now it's my turn to apply to university. I have written my personal statement and I was just wondering if it was ok as writing is not a strong point of mine. At University I intend to study Graphic Design, the grades related to the course I intend to study at university are the following: GCSE Art - C. A Level - Photography A, As - Graphic Design B, Media Studies C. I'm currently taking A2 Media Studies and Graphic Design. My predicted grade in Media is C and Graphic Design A. (I also have a grade C for As Film Studies). Okay so here is the drafted Personal Statement... To me Graphic Design is not just a subject I am studying for an A level it is a genuine interest of mine which I think stems from my childhood. I did not realise at that moment in time, but looking back it’s clear to me that Graphic Design is more that just a subject. As a child I was always making “things” and being creative, whether that’s drawing or making paper models. My Granddad was a big inspiration to me; he not only taught me history, he taught that it was important to be creative. During my fist year at Franklin College I started studying Photography, by learning how to use the traditional methods of Photography it meant a lot to me as I felt those methods had been forgotten over time. I never really got a chance to know my Granddad as I wanted to and by using developing my images in the dark room was my way of getting to know him since he spent so much time on this particular hobby. Photography is another passion of mine as well as arts and crafts; I feel that it ties in with Graphic Design well as Photography shapes many advertisements. I feel I am traditionalist when it comes to Photography, I feel there are never too many images of striking flowers and picturesque sunsets. I myself have entered competitions and indeed have one of my photographs printed in the local telegraph. Another interest of mine is reading, I have taken part in three “reading carnivals” as a child which one year I won. As a person I feel I am dedicated, punctual and responsible, during my last year at school I was picked as a Mentor to help and advice fellow students. I also am a staff moderator of an online Forum; I take part in advising members and generally giving people someone to talk to. I have supported the sites design also by helping out with some graphic elements on the site. I would like to hopefully peruse a career in Graphic design as it is an element which I am very much interested in, I feel that to actually have a career in something I am interested in is an important aspect of success. My father says that to do well in something it helps if you generally have an interest in it. I feel that going to Lincoln University would help me to achieve my future goal; it has a good reputation and is close to home which is important to me. I feel that my interests in different cultures and places helped me to be more open minded and be interested in various arts, one of which is the Japanese art of Paper Folding (Origami), I also like to organise my own scrapbook which I feel help with layout and Typography ideas within Graphic Design. I want to pursue a Degree in Graphic design as I like the idea of being able to crate anything in mind and having very little boundaries, I also feel that being able to create work for other people is important almost like an Architect designing a building, it’s iconic and open to the public’s view similarly to a Graphics Designer creating advertisements for people to view. I don't really know what is supposed to be included within it but I have made it personal and have spoken about the intended subject I intent to study. Please let me know what you think, Thank you in advance! :)
can someone proof read my artists statement for art school? hey , im applying to an art school in california , and they want an artists statement about who i am , why i want to go to there school and what inspires me etc is this ok Personal Statement Practicing art and design is not just to persue me career or my hobby , its my life. Being a creative person , I naturally am inspired by many things and am sensitive to my surroundings, and I cant imagine living my life without it. When I started studying It helped me make decisions about where I wanted to go in the creative fields starting in a broad range of subjects like graphic design, painting and 3D work working my way through many fields to narrowing down what I felt inspired me most , I am currently studying illustration at Parsons Paris school of design , through this I have studied : illustration concepts , typography , fashion illustration , painting , drawing and multimedia techniques , I have been shown various animations by students at your school in my illustration concepts class and have been inspired to create something like this myself , I feel that XXX` has that certain style I want to express myself in, its not too traditional and I can see that the students enjoy themselves in their work . I feel that my work is more successful when I have fun with what I am doing. I want to feel fulfilled with what I produce and keep feeding my creativity and I feel that the school and what it has to offer has the tools to help me do that. After I graduate I would like to proceed into the masters program at XXX or look for work as an animator within the film industry. Travelling has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in Glasgow and spent most of my life there studying, I then moved to London when I was 16 to live with my Father and assist in the up-keeping of his shop and Business. When I was 18 I moved to the French countryside and I am now living in Paris. This summer I visited the states for the first time and I was so inspired by the culture and the difference from Europe, France can be so conservative some times in keeping the old ways and frowning upon the young and new ideas although I do realise that make history, you sometimes have to learn from it, although I love it here I feel its time to get out and see the world, your school seems to be the place to be , I like the location of the school too , not too far but not too near Los Angeles , where I can have peace of mind , but if I need something ,this part of America has some great resources. I also think that teamwork is an essential part of being an animator and I see that faculty and students have a bond with the students and everyone works as a team and brings their talents into the final results, its great being independent but when you have an idea that people can feed off of and create something spectactuar. Being in multicultural schools all of my live has taught me how to deal with many different kinds of people and attitudes , how to communicate well and what to expect. my influences include music , children’s books , folklore tales , poetry , nature documentrys , art nouveau, wilderness , abandoned spaces, fashion , paranormal stories , architechture, mystery , travel , Parisian culture, my experiences, videogames , comics, my favorite being Sandman by Neil Gaiman, photography and theatre. thats all ive done so far , but can anyone give me pointers , ive never had to do this before argh
